Lessons at the Foothills Learning Center are hands-on and experiential. We offer lessons both on-site and in your classroom. To search for lessons by grade level or location, click here or browse our complete BEE catalog. To request a lesson, either submit a Lesson Request Form, e-mail us at FLC-Parks@cityofboise.org, or call us at 493-2530.
When learning outdoors, we extend and enhance the classroom experience and get kids outside where they learn in new and active ways. The Foothills Learning Center provides a living classroom where children experience nature in all its glory. When traveling to your classroom or meeting place, we use the same interactive, hands-on approach to get kids excited about what they are learning.
On-site and off, the Foothills Learning Center provides education about the Boise Foothills, the surrounding desert environment, and natural resource use and conservation in our communities. It is a place for learning by direct experience with the outdoors. Through these learning opportunities we hope to raise awareness and appreciation of our natural world, the interface between natural and human-made environments, and how we can live more harmoniously with the Earth.
For teachers that prefer to teach lessons on their own, we have teaching trunks available for checkout with all the materials you need to teach short versions of Foothills Learning Center lessons. We also offer teacher workshops in the summer where you can earn college credit and learn to deliver environmental lessons to your students.
In addition to our lessons, the Foothills Learning Center also offers special events for adults and children looking to learn more about our high desert environment and to experience it first-hand. Check our Upcoming Events page for a full listing of these additional educational opportunities.
