Get It Local - Learn More About Local Food

There will be a bounty of activities to promote the importance of buying food locally Saturday, November 19 at the Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center.

The WaterShed Weekend event, called "Get It Local," will showcase the Treasure Valley’s amazing local food resources and how local purchases support a healthy community and economy. Great family activities and crafts take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and it's FREE admission!

  • Listen to Susan Medlin from the Treasure Valley Food Coalition at 10:30 a.m. and Michael Boss from the Boise Co-op as they discuss the importance of buying from local and sustainable food sources and making better decisions the next time you shop for food, including your Thanksgiving feast!

  • Dine on free food samples in the exhibit hall and do fun activities with community partners Bon Appetit, Idaho Preferred and the College of Idaho’s Sustainability Stewards.

  • Create crafts from food and nature including potato stamp art, foil leaf prints, seed collages and popcorn garlands.

  • Consider bringing a canned or non-perishable food item to donate to the Idaho Food Bank during the Boise WaterShed's food drive from November 19-28.

  • There is also a wastewater treatment tour (weather permitting) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
